16" Rims - Best Tire Size?
I've been having a hard time deciding what tire size to get. I've done all the math, and endless googling. I've used the tire size calculator, and now need some good old fashioned advice from those with experience.
Car is 2005 Honda Civic DX (Special Edition) Sedan.
Stock tires are 185-70-14 , 24.2" diameter, 76" circumference.
New rims are 16" x 7.5
I've looked at:
205-50-16 , 24.1" diam., 75.6" circ. These are a little smaller than stock and I don't want to lower or 'pimp' my ride lol. It's a basicwork car that I just want to look a little better.
205-55-16 , 24.9" diam., 78.2" circ. These are a little bigger than the stock size. I think these might look better since I am not lowering the car,but will they rub?
I've even considered putting 205-50-16 on the front, and 205-55-16 on the back.
So please, I would appreciate any advice on tire sizes for the 16" rim, what would look best, what would perform best, what would fit best, on my 2005 Honda Civic, without any modifications.
Thanks!

The cars stock tires 185-70-14 are 24.2" diameter, 76" circumference. Thats 2" taller than yours, and yet I feel mine look too small.
Is your car lowered? Or do wider tires look better smaller? Or maybe your model cars has a smaller wheel well?
I really have no experience other than what the tire calulator says, and I'm not really a car 'enthusiast'.
I guess what I'm really looking for are the biggest tires I can put on my 16"x7.5 rims that won't look odd or cause problemssuch as rubbing without modifying the car.
Thanks for your post and I hope to hear from more people with their thoughts.

205/50/R16's will work the best for your car. and do not run different sizes front and back.

As civic2005 stated, a 205/40/16 is nearly 2 inches shorter than the stock tire/wheel combo.
This IS NOT the best tire size to use.....not even close. Does anyone really understand the idea behind the plus sizing concept?
Look at a 225/45/16.
