17 in. rims and rubbing(need help on how to tuck my wheels)?
hey guys im new at this. i have 17in rims(konig imagine)for my civic 02(EM2) and i want to drop it more. right now of course the two back tiresare touching the body. i was told since my wheels are to big its going to touch. also i was told i have to tuck it in since my rims are to big, and the only way to do that it if i bend or tuck in my molds. ???(its the little flaps on the body that rub on mytires)????does any one know what im talking about need help. ??lol...really bad. also should i down grade to 16 in. rims would that be a lot easier. instead of going through all this trouble and trying to tuck or mold my car. any suggestions of information.????? thanks or the help

Just some good reading.
What are the wheel measurments? 17x what, and what is the offset? These are a bit more important the tire size. But tire size DOES play into the problem.

Personal opinion.... 17's are WAY to big for a civic of any year

I drive an 06 with an 18x8.5 +38mm offset with a 225-40-18. Stock 205-55-16
My 94 had a 185-65-14, I ran a 17x7 +45mm offset
Specification Sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
185/65-14 4.7in 11.7in 23.5in 73.7in 859 0.0%
205/40-17 3.2in 11.7in 23.5in 73.7in 860 -0.1%
Specification sidewall Radius Diameter Circumference Revs/Mile Difference
205/55-16 4.4in 12.4in 24.9in 78.2in 811 0.0%
225/40-18 3.5in 12.5in 25.1in 78.8in 804 0.8%
I wouldn't ever run any more than 2 and MAYBE and thats a big maybe 3 inches bigger. From a performance standpoint it cuts down on acceleration by adding alot of rotational mass.

And CivicB, I agree with you for the most part. But the 8th gen civics can rock 18's and still have the same overall wheel diameter. But yeah, for the most part (7th gens and older), 17's are too friggin big. Personally, I have 17's, and am currently saving up for lightweight 15's.
And KarTuneMan, rolling the fenders should help your problem, but if you get smaller wheels, your car will accelerate faster since it's feet aren't so heavy... so I say just get 16's.

I do not have this problem.... I have been doing PROPER plus sizing for 20 years. You boys just don't have a clue! You want to take a car with 140 hp and turn it into a rocket ship. "rolling mass" PLEASE! Roll the fenders... there, thats a good bandaid! 18's for the new civic's NO problem. 17's for the 10 years prior.....again, NO problem. Have fun rollin and wrinkling your fenders, on wheels that DO NOT properly fit your "hot rod" civic's.
Young Lads.... I am for from ignorant....

you can't stereotype 17" wheels as being heavy; it ALL depends on the rim width, material, and manufacturing process. i've seen some 17's weight plenty less than 13" wheels, and for a performance aspect, a couple pounds doesn't make a noticable impact that you can actually tell a difference in.
