2004 Civic EX - Do I Need Camber Arms/Kit?
 

Apologies in advance if there's a good answer to this elsewhere, but I couldn't find it. I don't have much (and that's being generous) knowledge about cars, so I'm looking for some honest help. Some basic background info (in case it's relevant): currently 111k miles, and I purchased it with 72k. I've never had any issues with it, and I've always kept up with routine maintenance according to the manual.

I just had four new tires (85k warranty) put on and an alignment done. The shop said I need 2 camber arms and quoted me just north of $300 ($75/each camber arm and $140 for labor). The real "issue", according to him, is the left rear camber. The current left rear camber measurement is -1.7. The current left rear toe measurement is -.01 (total rear toe is -.04). The right rear camber is -1.2 and the right rear toe is .04 (both within Honda specs).

From everything I've read online, camber kits are most often associated when lowering cars. I've never lowered my car, nor do I plan to. I don't race or drive reckless or anything of the sort. Just an average daily driver that puts between 10-13k miles/year on the car.

Do I need the camber arms/kit? And if my right rear tire is within specs, why do I need 2 camber arms/kits?

If I don't get them, will my tires wear down quickly? I'm in school, and I'd like the car to last as long as possible, so if these are necessary, I'll get it done; but on the flip side, if there's no real benefit, I'd prefer to save the money.

And if I should get it done, is it something that I could do myself (or with the help of someone with some car knowledge)? And if so, are there any brands I should steer away from or will any brand be sufficient since I don't do anything crazy with my car?
