Default 205/40R/17's on new rims?

I have 17" Team Dynamics rims right now and am looking into a new set of rims. I'm not sure of the width (6.5, 7.5, etc.), but do i need to figure this out before i buy the new rims? I'm getting another set of 17"s, but do i need to find out the width of my rims and then match that to my new rims? When i bought the tires i dont remmeber specifying a width, so it seems like they should work.

Just take off the wheel, the size should be stamped on the inside somewhere.

What size tires do you have now?

205/40/17's.

I guess my question is do the width of the rims have anything to do with the tires? Because when i ordered mine i dont remember specifying a width, so it seems like it shouldnt.

well yeah, the ideal treadwidth of the tire will depend on the width of the rim, like you can't stretch a 185 tire on a 7.5 inch rim, although you do have some leeway.

so now that the tire is off my rim anyway, the width should be printed somewhere on the rim? (Read the post ***** thread if you want details about why the tires off [:@])

should be on the inside, either cast into one of the spokes, or maybe on a sticker (I don't know how TD does it).

If you were to measure it yourself you wouldn't get the right size, they measure by the actual tire bead location thing inside the lip, if I measure my 16x6.5 wheels with a ruler they actually measure something like 17x7.5 [8D]

anyway, if you are running 205 tires on there, your wheels probably aren't wider than 7"

mine are 17 X 7 'swith 205/40/R17's, but i would really suggest 16's though for your next purchase, that way you can have a comfortable ride with more room for a drop in the future. of course you've already been riding on 17's though, so you know how rough they are on the road, or maybe it's just me that thinks they are really uncomfortable now (maybe it's just me)

naw man i agree, they're really rough, but they look nice i'll try and measure tonight, i think i'm gonna order a new Kumho tire tonight too. The tire that the shop took off my tire was absoltuely shredded on the inside, that kind of sucked, but i found a deal for $55 a tire. They dont have any width specification on them, so hopefully they fit

what do you mean?? I don't understand what you are saying. your replacement tire should be the same size as the other 3.

alright i wont try to measure then, and i am getting the same size (205/40/17), hopefully width-wise there wont be a problem since you cant specify it. I dont think any of the numbers in the 205/40/17 specificy width, do they?
