Default Best tires for mpg.

I am need of new tires for my 06 ex sedan. Stock size is 205-55-16. I would like to stay with stock size. I am looking for a set that will help increase the mpg or keep it the same. I understand going from a OE to something else may hurt my mpg...how much truth is in this? I need an all season since i live in Indiana. Not looking to spend $150 a tire nor am I willing to cheap out and get some crap that will last 25k miles. Any suggestions?

well as long as you stick with stock tire size, mpg shouldn't be affected. its if you switch to a different tire size that mpg get affected a little. check out tirerack.com they got reviews and road test on tires. also check out discounttire and tirerack

get low rolling resistance or LRR tires
they will improve mpg
also keeping them inflated to the max psi will increase gas milage

if you're trying to save money, you may also consider getting tires with a very high treadlife rating. even though the ratings are different b/w manufacturers, it's still a good rule of thumb.

basically, if you replace your tires more frequently, then you'll spend more money....
