Default Big Rims=Less Power?

Quick question... with bigger rims do you lose performance? I would think nothing would change since the total size of the tire/rim is no different? I need someone that knows for sure to explain the truth. Thanks!

depends. with a bigger wheel there is obviously more metal so they will be heavy and not spin as easily. how big do you want to go? 16/17 inch is all the big i would really go but my 15s are nice too. plus w/ a smaller rim you get more sidewall so the ride is nice and you dont have to worry about bending your wheels as much.

18's are very heavy but 15's can be too light... Light rims can bend. I would go with 16's unless you can find a good weighted 15 then I would go with those. 15's turn faster and therefore you can go faster. 15's are more for performance and handling as 18's are just big and more for show.

Dude...15's don't turn faster if you have the correct size tire. On the flip, if you put TOO SMALL of a 15in. tire on your 15in. rim It WILL spin "faster" Spinning faster makes you quicker, NOT faster.....but just barely. If you ave the power, and I mean POWER, it will make a diff. if not your just puttin more miles on your odometer than your actually traveling. If you just want to stick to the road....get a big wide tire. If you want to go fast and burn up the asphalt, get a tire with some sidewall.

actually...technically speaking a lightweight performance 18" will be faster than a non-performance oriented 15" because you get more distance per rotation...and if its lightweight then the rotational mass isnt as great as a non-lightweight one...meaning you will be faster with a lightweight bigger wheel.

honda tuning did an article a few years ago on rims and do they affect horsepower. they used a stock civic with steel wheels, they some aftermarket 17s. they lost about 3-6 wheel horsepower with the 17s becasue they were heavier and harder to turn. so big heavy rims will cost you a bit of power, but nothing that can't be compensated for by more performace parts.

More distance covered per rotation.

You might get more distance per rotation but its not necessarily true. 15" rim with more rubber is the same diameter as 17" rim with less rubber... only thing bigger rims will do to you is give you less power and worse gas mileage end of story... Its a fact. do research or at least know something before you post and make yourself look like an idiot.

Jeeze guys....if the outside diameter of the 22 is the same as the 18, is the same as the 15. you get nothing covered faster. No distance....nothing. The nature of the "plus" sizing concept. YOU GAIN NOTHING!
