Default brake pads, drums, install....??

im in the market for some new brake pads and i have a few questions. I've done some research on here and it seems like most ppl like ceramic pads since their great all around so ill more than likely get that type. seems like a lot of ppl have ebc, hawk, or aem. are these brands good? what about VGX pads, are those good too? im looking for something around $50. I also want really good response since i AutoX yet still be great for daily driving and not wear out too fast. I helped install pads on my friends MP5 and it was really easy, is it simple to install them on civics? does anybody have a DIY or suggestions for installation? I dont know much about the drums, how do i go about those?

thanks!

I think that this thread has a pretty good write up on how to change pads(i wrote it so i'm a little bias). You would not remove the bracket for the pads unless you plan to change the rotor or have it machined. It doesn't have any pictures.

good choice on the ceramic pads, they are quiet and dont produce a lot of brake dust. The pads that you are describing will be just fine. Civic pads are cake to change.... dont sweat it

Shoes are a bit more difficult... there are some small parts (read: springs) that can get lost fairly easily, but they're definitely do-able. Just make sure you have the e-brake off, or you'll spend 2 hours trying to figure out why you can't just pull the drums.

Except for drums. I wouldn't touch them unless you have quite a bit of time and a lot of patience. But the more drums that you do, the better you get at them. You can will prolly be able to the the discs the first time w/o losing your mind, that won't happen with drums.

I would suggest HAWK Brake pads. Theyre doing me very well.....Brake drums are a pain in the ***. I did my front discs and left the drums alone.......I looked at em and the shoes werent worn too much. Just remember that 70% of the stopping comes from the front, and 30% in the rear. If you downshift correctly while driving normally, you can save tons of miles on the brakes.

ya i hear the HAWK pads are really good but dont they wear out faster than other pads? as for downshifting, ya it might extend ur pads life a little but wont it wear out ur clutch more? if it does, itd rather just hit the brakes since they cost no more than about $80 for a good set...also saves a bit more gas too.
