Default Cleaning Breaks

Ok bear with me here I dont know anything about breaks. How (or even can I?) should I clean my dirty old breaks? (the disc-like part that when new looks silver) And if I do, will it change the break performance at all? I have some new wheels that show the disc part off and want them to look ok.

Thanks.

Not much you can do to clean off the brake discs, any dirt and stuff on the disc will be burned off when you apply the brakes. However, if you want to make the discs look better with your rims look into getting drilled or slotted rotors. Brembo is a good company, Brembos run like $160 for the set and are quite a bit more expensive then regular rotors. Also you can look into getting a big brake kit, big rotor kit, or a rear disc conversion. For me, if your going to get rims that show your rotors you definatly should not have drums in the back. I just think that looks really bad. A rear disc conversion runs like $300.

Cool thanks for the info. So is this rear disc conversion going to change breaking feel?

Thats what i've heard from some of the other members. The rear discs are suppose to make the pedal alot more firm and lower the stopping distance.
