Drums or Disks?

I have a 1997 Honda Civic 2-door EX and wanted to know if they come with rear disk brakes. I have drums on mine. I ask this because I ordered some break parts and they sent me disks for the rear. So now they are telling me I have to pay shipping to send the parts back.

Is there any web site that has all of the possible combos for Civic of differing years?

You're right, yours should have drums in the back. The Si came with rear discs, but there was no Si in 1997. I don't think any '97 came with rear discs.

I also have a 97 EX 2-door and mine has drums in the back. The 97 EX didnt have an option to have disks in the rear so they screwed up, not you.

rear discs are a must. I'd take rear discs over high horsepower anyday, because you can go as fast as you want. but if you can't stop, then you're screwed.

I was checking out rear brake conversions out on ebay from Integras, and theyre pretty damn cheap.

But what are the advantages of disk over drum? And is it worth 200 bucks? (Sorry to thread jack, but its kinda related)

rear disks dont fade as fast as rear drums

there are no performance parts for drums so your drums arent gonna get any better than they are.

rear disk as a whole is lighter than drums. every pound of unsprung weight you can remove is like removing 2 pounds from your car.

rear disk are a hell of a lot easier to work on

im not much into cosmetics, but they look a whole lot better.

so yes, they are worth the $200, but for $200 they should be complete. i mean, 2 rear trailing arms with calipers, rotors and pads along with e-brake cables and a propotioning valve.
