heating up metal can eather make it harder or softer, harder gives it the chance of breaking, that could cause a major accadent. cutting will make them not seat on the perch properly. and could also create a distructive problem

oh man, you really dont wanna do that trust me. from personal experience, when I bought my cary, the springs where cut, and lowered in the front. The ride is crap, and if you do it wrong, you could have uneven weight distribution of the car, and this could cause bad handling, and bad tire wear. Just save up a bit, and buy some coilovers on ebay.com. There a lot of cheapos, but some will get the job done.

Get springs or coilovers like fast93 said above. Please don't endanger yourself and others by cutting shortcuts where they shouldn't even be considered.

I meanif you are flat broke, youcould get those spring clamps that just sqeeze your springs down, but a set of cheapo coilovers from e-bay is only gonna cost you 40 bucks. Hell, I'll send you a fiver if you promise not to heat or cut your springs.

Most of what I hear about ebay cheapos is that the ride isn't great, but liveable, and some not lasting for too long. Id say dont get the cheapest you find, but do your research and hear what other people have to say.
