MOT Failed on Brakes HELP

Default MOT Failed on Brakes HELP

Hello anyone tell me the chances of my car needing 4 new brake pads and 2 new front brake discs. As car just falied MOT or am I just been ripped off

It's very possible. Brakes don't last forever, you know. Chances are that if it failed the test, you need new ones. If you let them go too long (which it sounds like you did), your rotors can get messed and and may need to be replaced or turned/ remachined. It's a very easy DIY, and I'd highly reccomend picking up the parts and a repair manual and learning how to do it.

You can inspect the front brakes pretty easily. Just wait until they are cool and run a finger along the inner and outer sides of each rotor (disc). If you feel grooves, they probably need work. If you can see the pads and they look like they don't have much friction material on them, they need work.

This IS something that is great to know how to do. Civic disc brakes are REALLY easy to replace. Ido my front pads and rotors in well under an hour for less than $80US. I don't know of any shops that will do that.
