I was told by a guy at my tires plus that the whole "too close to the sidewall to patch" thing is a stretched truth. He said they used to patch tires like that all the time but a couple years ago the company stopped letting them because they wanted to make more money on new tires. He said that kind of patching requires a special patch, and he had some leftover from back when they used to do it so he patched my tire with one for me with an under-the-table deal.

I've had tires plugged successfully. What's the problem with a tire plug?

If they're too close to the sidewall they can be ripped out given the right conditions. (high speed cornering)
If it's not too close to the sidewall then you have nothing to worry about.

well with my old impala when i had those tiny pin hole leaks in the side walls from hiting pot holes sliding sideways i always paid the 13 or 17bucks for the new tire replacement and got a brand new tire since my tires where still new. needless to say i went thru ALOT of tires from discount tire from driving all stupid... luckely i burned up alot of those tires and about half the tread gone thru id pop the pin hole and pay the new price to replace the tire and go thru again... tho after i had one tire almost bald the manager said NO replacement its to balled.LMFAO so ive been slaping those cheap tires on the back since then on that side. but i dont drive the impala much any more... it gets me in trouble to easy!

here is the picture of the tire, should i leave it alone, plug and patch, plug only, or patch only. i kind of want to plug and patch since these tires are still pretty new. i just need the repair to be permanent for daily driving

get it patched. go to a different shop. patch>plug

what sucks is that if that nail had been anywhere else besides those grooves in the tires, you probably wouldn't have it stuck in the tire. bad luck sucks.

ya definatly fix it... you dont want to leave a nail or screw in the tire because over time it could wiggle out and then next thing you know you got a flat tire on the road or when you get ready for work youll come outside to find a flat...
