need new rear break wheel cylinder..help?
hey guys, i was just at midas for the winter matnence thing and they showed me that one of the rear brake wheel cylinder is leaking brake fluid ( the thing that when you pull the e-break, it expands to hold the drums), its not leaking that bad yet, but he sead if i leave it, it will leak all over inside and then i will need a hole brake assembily...now for the new parts it will cost me $37.00 times 2 because i will do both and like whatever for the brake fluid..but i would like to save on labor...has anyone ever replaced these and if so are they hard to replace??? or should i let a mecanic do it? please help, thanks!
I'v replaced the wheel cylinder before. Actually replacing the wheel cylinder isn't that hard. THere are like 2 bolts that go on the back of the wheel cylinder that bolt it onto the backing plate. The actual hard part is assemblying the drum. I hate drumb brakes, there are a lot of parts and it took me a while to do my first set of drums, and i still have trouble with it sometimes. Do one side at a time so you have an example side. My experiance is that you don't want to let the fluid leak inside the drum for a while. I have seen ALOT of really nasty brake drums and cleaning them is no fun.
