new wheels/tyres..
hi guys,
have just had a 120 kmh crash in my 2003 honda civic vti 1.7l 4d. fortunately with seat belts and air bags i managed to escape with just a minor bruise on my hand. bad news id that ive junked all 4 tyres and rims. good news is that i can use the insurance payoff to upgrade my wheels/tyres.
i am wondering if i can safely upgrade my 14" wheels+185/65 (or 75 im not sure) tyres with 16" alloys and 205/45(or 55) tyres.
i travel fair bit along interstate highways and part of the reason for changing to broader tyres apart from the good looks is the increased road holding.
the honda service station mechanics here always seem to discourage me and talk bout smaller turning radius, incresed wear on the suspension etc.
has anybody experienced the above, and if so to what extent...?
Thanks,
Farhad.

hi , i got a 93 hatch , i jus lowered it 2 inches on neuspeed springs, and am now lookin for wheels, i dunno wot to get eitha 16" or 17". do 17" wheels slow the 93 hatch down alot, would 0-60 be reduced alot??? thanks
Hi
I have '94 Civic DX HB.
Tein SS Suspension. Lowered about 1.5 in. Stock wheels and tires, which is 175/70/13. i don't know offset of stock wheel, about 42 mm.
I want to make wide body.
I want to install TSW Kyalami 17X7 4-108/100 Offset 25 mm (http://www.discounttiredirect.com/di...&rw=7&bp=4-108) and use 205/45/17 tires. Also i want to use wheel adaptor 38 mm wide (about 1.5 in)
All of this give me about 3 inches on each side.
Am i need to cut fenders before install fender flares or it will fit in?
Will this setup affect suspension dramaticaly?
Thank you

Hi farhaded,
I'm looking at wheels right now also. I took my 03 Civic 4D LX down to the shop and he said basically the same that others have said in this thread: Make sure you maintain the overall size.
But he did mention that the lower profile tire you add, the more you'll feel all the little bumps on the road. He basically talked me out of the 17's. I'm going with this set here:
Motegi FF7
I went with the gunmetal finish so as not to be too flashy as the Civic is my commuter. Haven't decided on the tires yeat but my bro. in law swears by Potenza's.
You can get the Motegi's on Ebay for between $350-$375 for a set but they cost $80.00 US for shipping. The shop in town can get a set for about $445 so it's not worth it for me.
Sorry to hear about the wreck,
HM
