Nitrogen filled tires
the reason for using nitrogen in tires for performance, is that when you fill your tire on a cool day and then drive on a hot day , with air in your tire, the pressure will increase much more than it would with nitrogen.
No NOT much more. The air is already 78% nitrogen!!!. It makes little to no differance. If you have a track built car then maybe MAYBE it's worth it...but come on, on our cars, i doubt you'd even be able to tell the difference.
Yes, not much of a difference, but a difference yes. I have raced since i was 9 yrs old, when you come off the track, you always use a temp gun and look at the temp of each tire, and the pressure before you go on the track and after, and with nitrogen in the tires, there are noticable differences compared to air.
The real reason for doing this: people who race know that your handling changes based on tire PRESSURE, driving heats up tires, and air expands when it is heated (increasing pressure). nitrogen doesn't expand as much, so running nitrogen in your tires keeps your tire pressure (and therefore, handling/grip characteristics) more consistent, from one run to the next.
