Default Is this normal?

I just bought a 2005 Civic LX sedan a few weeks ago with 20K on it. I noticed recently that when I'm going downhill and I start to brake, the car brakes smoothly, but after a certain threshold I feel a noticeable jump in braking power. Does this have anything to do with the different type of brakes for the front and back, or is this something I should get checked?

what do you mean by jump? does the braking become tighter or loose? or does it brake and then not brake then brake again?

I guess you could say that the braking becomes tighter. It feels like I just pushed down on the brake pedal another inch or two. I don't feel the change in the pedal but more of I just feel the rate at which the car is slowing down increase.

My 04 sedan did it when I got it 2 years ago... it doesnt do it anymore... maybe the brakes were just tighter then.... I seriously doubt anything is wrong unless the brakes stop working!

I bet its the *Down Hill Assist* acts like a manual thats downshifting to control downhill roll. If you ever notice that you no longer gain speed when driving downhill off the accelerator. With the down hill assist, your car will actually downshift as you break thus increasing your braking power. Its technology developed for tow vehicles to prevent the trailers from over taking the tow-rig. Since has been adapted to regular vehicles.
