Default question about buying 17"s on eg civic coupe

hi all you civic fans

i got a 1995 civic coupe

i want to buy 205/40/17 inch rims and tires package from wheelnext.com for 699$

1. if there's anybody out there with 205/40/17 rims + tires, could you tell me if it gets any rubbing

2. what is it mean when people say they got 17x7?
Is it17 = 17 inch rims, 7 = what does it mean? does 7 means 205?

3. my engine is stock and i dont race or accelerate fast, so 17" would work better for me than 16"s, right?

thanks for looking

1. I don't think you need to be concerned about rubbing.

2. 17 is the size of the rim, like you said, and the 7 is the width. The 205/40 just refers to your tire.

3. If you don't race or accelerate fast then yes, you're fine with 17's. To be honest you'd probably be fine anyways with 17's even if you did race, though a smaller rim would be better. Although I'm going to have to say that 16's would look better, especially if you don't plan on lowering the car. If you get 17's and don't lower your car your going to sit high.

Not only will 15's and 16's look better, but the ride quality for daily driving purposes will be signicantly better than with 17's

I have 205/40/17....and to be honest, about the next day I got them on, I wanted smaller. lol. They look fine don't get me wrong, it's just that I lowered my car and it'd look a lot cleaner had I had 15 or 16's. As far as rubbing, I only seem to rub when I pull into my drive way for some reason. As long as you don't fly over a speed bump or dip you'll be just fine.

I agree. Unless your suspension is set up for 17s, you are in for a punishing ride.

I've been running 17's on my eg for about a year now, and I've never had any problems with rubbing... that said, the ride quality will be worse than stock (personally, I don't think it's that bad, but that's just me). You won't have any problems with accelerating, but remember that your speedo will be off by about 3% (it will read about 58 when you're actually going 60 -- 93 when you're going 96 for the metric folks )... personally, I'm swapping to lightweight 15's when I get the money.
