Rear Struts
Well yesterday I attempted ot put my lowering springs on my car. I had some friend over that knew how to do it and we got a 18 pack and went at it. Well we cruised through the first 2 springs in the front in like 40 mins. When we went to the back we started to run into trouble. Im not sure of the actual name of the bolt but its the one on the top of the strut tower that holds the springs mount down. Ya know the one that holds the mount and all the compression, and when you undo it the compression is released. Well appartently these arent very easy to undo. We tried for like an hour to jus turn it a little bit but we got nothing. So one of my friends said heat it up. Maybe it will expand some and allow us to turn it.
So, we start heating the bastard and we notice like black expoxy or jb weld s**t who knows, coming out from the threads. So after heating it for slow long we would be able to turn it a little bit then have to reheat again and so on. Well we finally get the driver side rear done and go onto are last corner the passenger rear. We take the same precausions heat and try turning it. But this one wont turn so we just keep heating and pulling. What do you know the f***** snaps off. Yes the bolt rather snapped off rather than turning on the threads because of this dam **** that was on the nuts. So we try to undo the bottom bolt of the strut so we can take the whole thing off. What do ya know, it wont turn and we dont want to break this on off either. So we decide to try and take the whole control arm off. No luck but by this time i was pissed and jus yanked it and broke another bolt off. This was at 8 at night so there was no way to getting any parts other than what i had to work with. My friend has a project hatch that he has been working on and was willing to lend me his strut but we just couldnt get it off.
Sooooo, after sitting and thinking we had decided a way to n***** rig it so i could get back to my house. We ended up cutting a spare bolt in half and welding the threaded end, on the end of the strut so i could at least drive it. Now, currently i am driving around with a welded together strut and a bolt broken in the passeneger rear control arm. What i thought was going to be an easy job couple hour job ended up spending my whole saturday working on my car.
The main part of this whole dam story is what the hell was that s*** holding the bolt on that was on the top of the strut tower, and why was it there? Not like that part of the strut is mounted outside of the car where it would wear and tear. It is mounted inside the trunk. Oh yah my suspension was completely stock before i had decided to put my springs on yesterday, so it had to off came from the factory like that.
