Okay, hopefully this will be my last "how do you" thread in here for a while (mostly because I want to be able to drive my civic... I'm tired of bumming rides to work lol)... anyway, I have the rear lca's off the car and I have the shocks and coilovers put together, ready to go back on the car... basically, all I need to do before I can put the stuff back on the car is put the new bushings in. Well, I burned out the stock rubber bushings with a propane torch, but I noticed that there's still a metal sleve in the control arms where the stock bushings were. I put one of my poly bushings in place to see if it would even come close to fitting with the sleeve in, and from the looks of it, it won't. So basically, does anybody know how to get the sleeves out without a hydraulic press? I'd really like to put everything back on the car tonight so I can drive the poor thing already... I'm rapidly approaching a full week of my car sitting up on stands in the driveway, all just so I can get the back end down.

 

If you don't want to putz for hours, take it to a machine shop.
Okay, here's how you do it.

Tools Needed:
Propane/Map Gas torch
Sawzall
Hammer
Different size chisels
Band-aids

What to do:
Torch out the old bushings

With the sawzall, cut through each sleeve on both sides, so it'll look like this: ( )
DON'T CUT THROUGH THE CONTROL ARM!! it's okay if you gouge it a bit though.

With the hammer and a smaller chisel, chisel in between the LCA and the sleeve near the cuts to pry the sleeve off.
this is the putzy part^

Then once the sleeves are out sand down the scrapes.

Use the band-aids for any mortal wounds from your work.

Make sure you lub up the bushings before you put the new ones in!!! Otherwise they'll squeak!!

thanks, man.. but I found a how-to on d-series.org and got them done already lol... actually, I did it almost the same way (I used a hacksaw until I realized that a metal blade from a sawzall would actually fit in the holes... that sped up the process a little lol).. I'm going to do a DIY writeup as soon as I get the pics from my phone to my computer.
