Safe to cut a shock in half?

Maybe a stupid question, but can I take a sawsall across the shock (below the spring) without anything blowing up in my face? My front shock pinch bolts are seized and I was looking to save some time having to pull the axles.

as long as the shock is fully extended I would say that it is completely safe.

Thought about it more, and I may just cut the forks. Problem is, there's still spring compression on there that the shock shaft is holding, even at full extension.

Not safe.. The shock is under pressure.

You don't need to remove the fork to remove the axles. Just drop the lower control arm.. If you really want to remove the pinch bolt, drill it out.
