Tricked-Out Parts: Mitsu to roll out Ralliart line; Honda to offer goodies for new Civic
AUTOWEEK

Posted Date: 11/3/05

Mitsubishi presented some tricked-out treats at SEMA, but more relevant to performance junkies was the rollout of the Diamond Star's Ralliart (ralliartusa.com) parts and accessories program.

Ralliart, well known amongst tuners for its motorsports activities, will offer powertrain, suspension and appearance upgrades across Mitsu's model range. Initial offerings come in early 2006 and will fit the Lancer Evolution and new Eclipse. Additional parts will arrive in the spring as Mitsubishi continues to phase in the line. Expect a strategy similar to that offered by Nissan's Nismo division: Basic parts will carry a full warranty, while high-performance stuff gets limited or no coverage.

Ralliart will scavenge some products from its existing global catalog, but Mitsubishi is looking for North American partner companies to produce new products for our market. To hype the launch, Mitsu will give away a Ralliart-tuned Evo IX via an online contest that runs until Nov. 14. Enter at Ralliart's website, or at autos.yahoo.com/custom. -MAC MORRISON

More Civic performance

While Honda's Factory Performance accessory program has been around since 2002, the automaker had some tricks of its own up its sleeve at SEMA, where it announced a lineup of packages and components for the 2006 Civic Si, coupe and sedan. The packages feature sport suspension upgrades, aerodynamic body kits, plus-size wheels and tires, and a sport muffler as part of the HFP catalog for the first time.

The Civic Si HFP components include: High-performance springs that reduce ride height by about one-inch and lower the vehicle's roll center; high-performance dampers; sport muffler; 18x7 alloy wheels (high-performance 215/40ZR-18 tires recommended); full aerodynamic body kit (front, sides and rear) and a snazzy HFP emblem. The entire package will set you back $3,880.

Packages available for the 2006 Civic coupe and sedan in LX and EX trim levels include: High-performance springs that reduce ride height by about one-inch and lower the vehicle's roll center; high-performance dampers; 17x6.5 alloy wheels; full aerodynamic body kit (front, sides and rear); HFP emblem and a rear wing spoiler or lip spoiler on Sedans. Pricing for the whole shooting match is $3,181 (Coupe) to $3,680 (Sedan).

The packages will be available exclusively through Honda dealers nationwide starting next April and can be installed by the dealer. The packages come with the same factory warranty as the vehicle (3 years/36,000 miles). If you don't want the entire package, you can also purchase components separately.
