Steering wheel shake at high speed, new tires and wheels
I purchased a new 2000 Civic with stock suspension and stock wheels. It drove great with no steering wheel shake.
I ordered new wheels and tires from Tire Rack and had them mount and balance them. I installed them myself. Now when going between 60-80 mph, the steering wheel shakes. Above ~80 mph it's fine, below ~60 mph it's fine.
I've read through a lot of the threads here, now I am suspecting that the tires are not balanced, but I hear that Tire Rack is great and I don't suspect they would BS me on balancing the tires.
Any thoughts on what it could be? The only other thing I can think of is that the previous owner had 185/70/R14's instead of the recommended 185/65/R14. I wouldn't think so, but if it was aligned with bigger tires, could it throw it off?
Thanks!

check all your lug nuts (did you use a torque wrench?)

I would say wheels rebalanced also, I got new rims for my car last year and it did the same thing. And it also pulled to the right all the time, but when I put the stockers on, it was fine.

Do they fit "snug" on the hub...? They should. The stock wheels are hub centric, the aftermarket wheels have a larger center bore to fit more applications. You might try some hub centering rings. You might have also slightly warped the rotors....does the shake get worse when you apply the brakes?

Its going to be your tire size. You might have got the wrong size.
When i barely bought my rims.....they gave me the wrong tires and i was on the freeway
going 50-70 and the wheel shook like crazy.
So i went back the next day and they gave me replacements. Now it hardly shakes.
