Suspension lowered
 

So I bought a 1995 Civic EX that someone was apparently trying to turn into a race car. The exhaust is a bit on the loud side, but doesn't have such a bad sound to it, and I do like the aftermarket air intake. However, when the guy lowered the car, apparently what he did was referred to as "cutting the springs." I'm assuming that instead of actually putting in a lowered suspension, he just clipped the stock suspension. In any case, the car rides pretty rough and handles speed bumps like I was trying to go over a cliff. I was wondering what I can do to fix this. The dealership quoted me between 1-1.2k to put the stock suspension back in the car, but I wanted to see what other options I had.

If all he did was cut the springs, fixing it would be as simple as putting undamaged OEM springs back in. If you have any experience working on cars, it's not a hard job. Definitely NOT a $1,000+ job.

True, the hard ride could have damaged other components. My guesses would be the struts might be blown, but I don't really see it being much worse than that.

are you sure you know nothing about it 96 civic? lol

replace those spings and possibly struts. feels uncomfortable and unsafe driving with cut springs. just find a used stock set or if you want to lower your car the proper way and still feel comfortable get some tein s-techs or other lowering springs and aftermarket or stock struts.

I was looking at this site's reviews for suspension, and those tein stechs seems to rank pretty high with people here. Not too expensive either. I think it was like less than 300 for the spring/struts unless I read it all wrong.

You read right. You can usually pick up Tein S-Techs and Tokico blue struts for somewhere around $300 on eBay, just be aware of knockoff products.

Also be aware that the S-Techs lower almost 2", though the ride is going to be smoother than it is with cut springs. If you want a more modest drop, the Tein H-Tech springs lower around 1".
