TIEN S-Tech Spring install
 

i own a 2002 Honda Civic LX and am looking at getting a set of the TIEN S-Tech springs, but i was wondering if the springs will also require shocks for the front and rear. The front shocks are bad. I heard that lowering springs do not need the shocks but I didn't think that this was true. Any help is appreciated.

you can use stock struts but there is a very high chance that they will just blow out since they are not made for a drop

are struts needed at all?

they dont NEED to be replaced but like basbal just told you they are not made for a drop so they will not last as long. So either swap em now and enjoy a better setup or just throw on the teins....just dont expect a big drop out of them...s-techs dont drop you far enuff!

i believe that the tien s techs would last a bit longer on the stock struts than other springs out there. but since your working on the suspension then might as well change them out also, save you the hassle later. it will eventually go out

If your front shocks are bad you need to replace them regardless of if you are installing lowering springs.
Replace all 4 shocks/struts and the springs. (Don't get stock shocks/struts if you are lowering)

your car has stock springs, so if you replace them with lowering springs you still have springs and still need struts!
only suspension setups ive ever heard about not needing shocks/struts is a hydrolic or air suspension, which they do still sell accumulators that act as shocks that are just used inline with the air or hydrolic lines. to compress and expand just like a shock would.

do with a strut that is good for a lowering spring as well.... tho most are not recomended below a 1.5inch drop. i used some blues with my old stech springs on my 99 which worked just fine. but with my new GC coilovers i upgraded big time to some koni yellows which work great for being down right slammed.... tho i do want to take the civic lower, i just need extended tophats to keep from riding on the bump stops. when i swap them onto my 96dx im going to upgrade afew things to get lower!

make it easier on yourself and change that shocks along with the springs.

S-Techs are designed for stock shocks, but if youre shocks are bad already on your 2002 you might as well replace them. It will undoubtedly ride better wti hteh new shocks vs. the OEM, but they aren't always required. It's easy to do once you have your whole suspension torn apart anyway.

my s techs blew my shocks within 6 months and the ride got so bad i had to fork over money for coilovers
