Default Tires rubbing on 95 Civic Coupe HELLLPPP!!

I just bought a 95 honda civic DX coupe for my son. Today we noticed that the tires are rubbing in the wheel wells. Actually the inside lip of the wheel well is rubing the outside (sidewall) of the tire. The rims are 17 inch TSW's and the tires are 215/40 R17 Ventus HR II's. Should there have been a suspension mod to keep this from happening or are the shocks and coils shot? Could I use coil spacers to keep this from happening? Has anyone else had this problem and successfully corected the problem?

There are no markings to indicate what the width is. What is the proper way to measure the width?

Chances are you can run 205s on there, go to a tire place and theyll be able to tell you right away........the tires are too wide, thats why theyre rubbing.

205/40/17 will fit on a 17x7 rim. I have 205/40's on my 17x7's. 215's a lil too large and yeah, most poeple have rubbing issues with those if you have a lowered civic and haven't rolled the fenders

here's a couple sites to give you an idea:

http://www.mazda6tech.com/index.php?...d=17&Itemid=32
http://www.robsaudiworld.com/fender.htm
http://www.vtec.net/articles/view-ar...&page_number=1

the last one is kinda iffy...some people on other forums said sometimes it turns out good, sometimes it turns out bad. so i dunno if I'd suggest that.

Supposedly you can go to a body shop or something and ask them to roll your fendors. they'll charge you like 20-40 bucks. you could always try that route as to not mess your car up.

hope that helps

Don't wrinkle the fenders....get a wheel that fits. "rolling" the fenders is a way to make something fit, that doesn't fit...you see.
These little rice rockets are very sensative to a PROPER fit as far as tires and wheels are conserned. 17x7 is ideal 205/40. The offset needs to be in the area of +40mm or more!
