TODAY SUCKED
Well today i went to my friends house to just simply put some brake pads in. Mostly cuz he has the impact driver and the tools that make the job easier. I then come to find out that i need new rotors so i got those. As im messing with the rotors i see this grease...everywhere in my rim and everything. I check around ... UGH now i need a new CV axel. So i take another trip to autozone.. costs me $101.00 with a core charge of 35.00 which is aight, but wish it was more. I did get a lesson in messing with my car and did learn a lot of new things , but i didnt want the money to come along with it.
Pads - $30.00 Rotors - $45.00 CV Axel - $101.00 = 176 - 35 core = 141.00$ and i only wanted to spend $30.00 I have pics of my brake pads especially the one that was grinding metal on metal. Be up in a bit |
RE: TODAY SUCKED
o ya its hardly ever a easy fix.... gotta hate those unexpected repairs needed!
BUT at least thats one less thing youll have to worry about failing on ya when driving down the road! |
RE: TODAY SUCKED
heh unless the passenger side axel decides to be a pooper.. KNOCK ON WOOD!

RE: TODAY SUCKED
where did the grease come from? the boot was ripped?
|
RE: TODAY SUCKED
ya well it wasnt grease.. im pretty sure it was tranny fluid but looked like grease.. ya the rubber CV boot ripped
http://xterra101.com/images/cvboot.jpg thats not mine but thats what happened, there was tranny fluid all up in that B.. but i checked my tranny fluid after and i had A LOT still in there so i was straight. |
RE: TODAY SUCKED
Sounds like a good day of wrenching to me. I love learning something new, as well as the satisfaction of doing the work myself. If you want to feel a little beter, call a shop and have them quote everything you did. It will bring a smile to your face, I promise.

RE: TODAY SUCKED
Thats not tranny fluid, its axle grease. If there is tranny fluid around your axles you have a problem. I've had much worse days. Like 2 weeks ago when it took 6 hours to change the front struts. Last time I changed an axle the boot on the trans ripped and started leaking fluid.

RE: TODAY SUCKED
it just sucked. Do i gotta put the axle grease in? wtf.. or is it just there? cuz i didnt put any in
|
RE: TODAY SUCKED
If you bought a new or rebuilt axle, you only have to install the axle. If you install a new boot, then you have to apply grease. The new axle will have grease already inside the CV joint.
