Hello all, I just was given / inhereted a 1988 civic wagon, 6 speed 4wd. Lots of work to be done but little by little just like eating an elephant. One bite at a time. The ride has 13 inch rims on it. Stock if I'm not mistaken? They ride like crap, I can tell every bump in the road. So my question is this. What is the widest tire that will and biggest rim that will fit this car and NOT scrfape the wheel well pulling in to a parking lot. I do not plan on dropping it like I said its 4wd. But I aint going off road either it is still a civic. I would like to keep the price around $800 max. The accountant gets pissed other wise.

 

the bigger the rim and thinner the tire the rougher it will ride. but you can put 17's with 205/40/17
i suggest getting 15in rims

The Turbo project is a defiant project in the future. The engine has 187k on it and My oldest turns 14 this summer. So in about 3 years the engine gets rebuilt and the kid gets his hands dirty and I get the Jack & coke on the weekend.

 

I find it hard to believe a stock set of wheels/tires will provide any discomfort... Going up in wheel and tire size will only diminish ride quality so if you really want comfort, stick with stock.
