B18b1

Hi!!! I have a 98 honda civic ex coupe and I have been researching information on performing a b18b1 nonvtec swap. From what I have found so far the swap is pretty straight foward as far as what I need to buy. After researching the best route I think to go is to order the complete swap for the 98ls from steve at hmotorsonline. I do have a question about the wiring process though. Would it be easier to leave everything ob2 since both engines are already ob2? Or would I come out better converting everything to ob1? Could someone tell me the advantages and/or disadvantages and what would be the easiest way to go? Also could any recommend a good shop to perform the swap in the dallas tx area.:D

first of all... if your going to swap get a VTEC might as well whats the point of getting non Vtec if you already have none i can see but swap and your getting non... W T F ?

Because DOHC VTEC motors cost about $800 more usually. VTEC is not needed. It is good, but over rated in my opinion. But I'm bias, I have a b18b1. In my area, B18b1 swaps can be had for under $1000 pretty easily. Where as B16 swaps are closer to $2000 at least. Then GSR swaps are even more, usually $2600 and up. With my $1000 motor I have beaten B16s...because they are super over rated. If your going to swap to a B motor...LS or GSR is the way to go.

But to your question, The easiest route is to find a motor the same OBD as your car. Makes the swap nice and simple. Then if you want for tuning purposes, get a conversion harness to convert to OBD1 and run an OBD1 ecu. OBD1 ecu's can be chipped and tuned where as OBD2 cannot. Tuning is not required with a swap though.

So basically the obd1 setup is better for tuning, but not required for the swap?
