Default '94 cx auto transmission

hello

i just bought an automatic '94 honda civic cx- first car!! yay, me! anyway. i've noticed that the "pick up" on it is very slow. it goes in to first gear without a prob but it takes forever for it to get into second gear. i don't have a tachometre on it so all i know is that it hovers at 40 km/hr for a good 4-5 seconds before it goes into second... is this at all normal? i know if i had a heavier foot it would change faster... but i can tell it's just not ready, so i don't lay on the accelorator... any help would be great!

the gears are made to be fuel efficient. and thats just how it is. the other down side to the reduced acceleration is the AUTO transmission.

When you dont "stomp on it" its going to shift your car at a low RPM... something like 3000ish. When you get on it it will take it to redline and accelerate faster. I hope this helps a little
