97 civic dx strange noise.....
I have a 97 dx with 55k miles and I hear a grinding noise coming from inside the timing belt cam. The noise disappear when I push the clutch on low rpms but when I drive if I push on the gas pedal on high rpms I can hear it again especially in first and second gear...it comes and goes! I had the bearing inside the timing belt cam changed the noise went away but now is back!
the car drives normally no problems whatsoever!@
Any suggestion?

its probably the bearings again, i doubt its anything serious. the grinding noise, you dont think it might be ur clutch disc about to give up on you? when u first turn on ur car in neutral, without press on the clutch pedal does it still make that noise? how about when u push in the pedal, does it still make the noise? both of my cars did/do that (rx7 FC worn out clutch/ civic 92 dx replaced clutch just recently.)
Hey thanks for replying!
Yes when the car is in neutral without pressing the clutch pedal the noise is really bad, very noticeable. I can hear it in second gear a lot just before changing to third gear. At this point I don't tink that is the pulley again, it was changed not even a month ago, my fear is actually that the clutch disc is really worn out....any more suggestion? How much should cost me to have it replaced?
Thanks for your time!

I have the same problem. The info I got here told me it was the throw out bearing, and my clutch was slipping anyway. I replace the clutch, pressure plate and throw out bearing, I still have the noise. Like you, I hear it at idle, and when in gear or driving down the street.
It stops when I depress the clutch. So your saying its the timing gear? How is that possible?

At this point I don't know what else to say.....you replaced the all clutch and have still the noise??
Man....that's scary! I'm taking the car in on monday morning and see what my mechanic has to say. Will keep you posted!

ALL RIGHT YOU GUYS....
this is BAADDDDD.
went to see a transmission specialist... told me that the noise is internal and that i would have to replace the transmission and clutch, for a total of $2000!
And that is with a rebuilt transmission....
Is he trying to ripp me off?
It that a fair estimate or should I look t pay less?
Thanks for your help.....
