Default 97 civic trany rebuild info request

97 civic ex, 5spd, d16y8, cai, all eurothane suspension busings.

Tranny questions..
a few months back the input shaft bearing started making some noise, so i grabbed a junker trans that i thought was in good shape and put it in. along with a new flywheel, clutch disk, pressure plate, guide bearing, to bearing, and motor mounts.

It works, but 3rd gear is a little weird. Its obvious that the syncro on 3rd is gone, cause unless i'm really trying to match speeds, i get a little gear grind when going into 3rd. that part of it i understand, what i dont understand is why it is that sometimes when i'm in 3rd, if i let off the gas a little (let the drive train go slack) and then go back on the gas, it'll jump out of 3rd. no other gear has these issues.

first question is, so i guess to fix this issue, i'm gonna have to tear the trans open, cause i'm guessing that theres something internal thats fouled up.. maybe the syncro is causing it to not fully engauge? maybe its a detent issue? maybe a fork is bent? i dunno, and i didnt know the owner of the trans before i put it in...

next issue... so i have the original trans i pulled out of the car, its under the workbench for now, but with the 3rd gear issues in the car now, i'm thinking i should get to work on the old trans pretty soon, and get it swapped back in..

whats the procedure on "freshining up" this trans? as i remember, everything worked wonderfully smooth untill that bearing started making noise. obviously bearings, but i'm having a hell of a time finding them, i've called 3 different honda dealers, and the parts guys must all have just taken a bong hit, cause they couldnt find crap.

should i go ahead and spend the money on any other parts? new syncros? i guess if i'm gonna have it apart, i should probably go ahead and put in new seals... like around the half shafts, input shaft, shift shaft, all that.. i dont wanna have to do this again any time soon.

I have a good grasp of mechanics(obviously, cause i already swapped the trans) and i have a shop full of tools. i do have a small press, but i dont know if its large enough to get these shafts in, just incase i have to press anything on or off the shafts...

suggestions, links, pictures, directions, anything helps.

the bottom line is that i wanna do as good of a job as i can, cause this is my daily driver, and my weekend warrior.. so money is tight, but right is better than faster or cheaper.

should also download the OEM Honda service manual it tells you everything to check and look for with the whole transmission

Do you know of a good source to dl the manual? or is it easy to find, just google it?

No i havent pulled it apart yet, cuase i really dont have space to have it all apart, and be able to keep up with all the parts untill i get tnhe new ones to put in it. I know it needs bearings, and if i'm gonna go that deep, i figured i'd just do the seals and brass. Its 11 years old, and has had a rough life thus far.. but it worked untill the input bearing gave up...
