I read somewhere that someone put something called Seafoam in the tranny and it helped smooth out the shifts. Is this stuff ok to use? Does it work? I'm just wondering. I put in a used tranny and would like to give it all the help I can. I changed the fluid using AFTz1 from Honda. I'll be changing it soon to help get all the old stuff out and was wondering if I'd be wasting my time with the seafoam stuff......

seafoam isn't really for the transmission

all the additives you'll ever need are in the genuine Honda fluid.

seafoam is cleaner that is typically used to clean out a fuel system. It does have other uses, but it is most common to use to clean fuel lines, injectors, etc.

I have never heard of it being used in a transmission.

Seafoam is a liquid used to remove carbon build up and other contaminants from the internals of a motor. Tranny fluid doesn't undergo any combustion, therefore, you don't need seafoam in the tranny casing. It does however do well in fuel systems and oil systems. and brake boosting seafoam is the hotness, lol.

i think there is a sticky on here about it, just search it on HCF or google it, you will get some good info on where you should use it and how you should apply it. =)

I wasn't aware that this existed, and was referring to the common type of Seafoam.

Also, that is only for automatic transmissions. Not sure what kind he has.

It's a used tranny out of a 98 Civic Ex. Mine had the strainer clog up( just bought the car a few months ago) I just put the EX tranny in. I want to give it all the help I can.

you need to specify next time then. We can't read minds over text, lol. Trans seafoam isn't very useful, i'd just suggest a simple flush and fill. If it doesn't work, then you might want to open it up and check it's condition.
