APC shifter

Well today a friend of mine made me a present...(for the crack in my bumper he caused) and it is an APC short shifter (just like the ones in Pepboys and other autoparts stores) Now I can't figure out for crap whether its aluminum or steel and whether I should put this on my car...any advice?

Take off the shift knob and you should be able to see if the shifter is aluminum or steel.
