Default Auto Tranny

ok. Im having a prety crapy problem. Heres whats up. Basicaly the car engine works fine, but the trans..... Anyway I start the car, put it in D4 and drive within a minute or two, the car puts its self into neutral! So i mean like the sifter is still in D4 but its reving the engine and the car slows down to a stop, so its in neutral. So i have to pop the sifter into N then turn off the car and start it back up. When i start it back up, put it back in D4 and it work for a few hundred feet, then again the same probleme. The car has 340000 KM on the trans and the body. The engine only 170000. Ive brough the car to a mechanic but he dint look at anything. he just told me i need a new transmision. About a week and a half ago i noticed the problemes with the shifter and the SRS light came on. Dont know if that has anything to do with it? Also the Shifter is stiffer then usual, but i think that cause theres ice on a cable or something. Its a 1997 honda Civic 4 door EX. Automatic transmission and i dont know really what else would be important. I know enough about cars to change stuff like rads and bumpers. But some people tell me it could be even electrical. Any suggestions would be greatly apreciated.

Is the ATF fluid low?

Is the CEL light ON? Is the D4 light blinking?

Also check whether the shift cable is out of adjustment:

Sorry.

ATF = automatic transmission fluid (as you guessed)
CEL = check engine light (see link in my signature)
D4 = dash indicator light showing that you have the transmission in the D4 position

It shows that the car is in D4 but i mean it cant be cause the car dosent move. When i move the shifter up and down after it kicks into neutral, nothing happens. It stays on the D4 light not flashing or anything. The check engine light has been off for about 2 months, ever since i got some water damage. Wierd i know. I did a Code check and it was giving me all is good when the check engine light turned off 2 months ago. i havent done it since.

For some Civics, you can pull the trouble SRS code, much as you would do for the CEL or D4 light. Others, you need to take the car to the dealership to get the code that identifies the specific problem in the system.

well its like 2 month later and a lot has happened. Basically i paid people to check it out for me and they said i needed a new tranny. So i paid and they did not deliver the repairs for 2 months so i got my car back and waiting on money. Here is apparently what the problem is. There is this bracket shown bellow that broke and made some sort of pump blow and killed my tranny. I decided im going to change the transmission my self but do not know where to start. Is there a manual or some guide on where to start to putting this thing back in. I have a decent knowledge on cars but im positive i can do this. The engine wasn't taken out of the car so i need to do this from below.
