flywheel question
hi was just wondering if anybody could help, really want to know what is involved in changing the flywheel as i have got to have a new clutch so thought i mite aswell put in a lightened flywheel, does the old flywheel unbolt and the new one bolt on when the clutch is off or has it got to be alligned and messed about with.
any help would be much appreciated |
RE: flywheel question
yes the old flywheel will unbolt from the engine. it will use a 12point socket only! and it is a really thin profile bolt heads so becareful not to strip them.

RE: flywheel question
what are all the advantages of getting a new flywheel? Sorry to change topic a bit
|
RE: flywheel question
quicker engine response, so it will rev quicker, good for autocross. it will also give a little power because it is spinning less weight.
but a light flywheel has a lot less intertia so launching at a dragstrip becomes a lot more difficult because too low of an rpm -bogging. too high rpm and tire spin. |
RE: flywheel question
And to add to what he said (ef4life), with a lighter flywheel, your RPMs drop faster (because less inertia). So when shifting, you'll start the next gear from a little lower than with a heavier flywheel.

RE: flywheel question
Plus you loose compression braking ability quite a bit
