flywheel question

Default flywheel question

hi was just wondering if anybody could help, really want to know what is involved in changing the flywheel as i have got to have a new clutch so thought i mite aswell put in a lightened flywheel, does the old flywheel unbolt and the new one bolt on when the clutch is off or has it got to be alligned and messed about with.
any help would be much appreciated

yes the old flywheel will unbolt from the engine. it will use a 12point socket only! and it is a really thin profile bolt heads so becareful not to strip them.

no not go an 8lb fywheel heard quite a few problems about them so decided to buy a exedy 9.5lb one hopefully that wont let me down and perform alot better

quicker engine response, so it will rev quicker, good for autocross. it will also give a little power because it is spinning less weight.

but a light flywheel has a lot less intertia so launching at a dragstrip becomes a lot more difficult because too low of an rpm -bogging. too high rpm and tire spin.

And to add to what he said (ef4life), with a lighter flywheel, your RPMs drop faster (because less inertia). So when shifting, you'll start the next gear from a little lower than with a heavier flywheel.

Plus you loose compression braking ability quite a bit
