Default Good LSD?

So I thought I broke an axle... apparently not. I replaced the axle I thought was bad, didn't fix it. I had my mechanic take a look, and he says it sounds just like I did in a few teeth on my ring or pinion gear. I want to upgrade to an LSD now that I'm going to have the tranny apart. What's a good brand, that's not too expensive? I'm on a budget... It's a '99 Civic Si. Thanks guys! -JW

3. Differentials

Differentials are probably one of the best mods you can do to any car. However, they are not cheap and they are not easy to install. Essentially what an LSD (Limited Slip Differential) does is help put down equal power to both wheels. Open differentials are a path of least resistance differential, so if one tire loses traction most of the power your engine makes is going to go to that spinning tire. The LSD on the other hand will keep power to the non spinning wheel to try and get traction back.

There are quite a few different uses for differentials, but the most common two differentials are the Quaife LSD and the OBX LSD. These are helical LSDs that use spider gears, other less popular LSDs like the Kaaz LSD are clutch type which is pretty self explanatory. For FWD vehicles IMO helical is the best and they last longer. The Quaife is lifetime warranty and very expensive ($1000+). The OBX is no warranty and much less expensive (~$400-450). The Quaife drops right in, the OBX needs to be shimmed correctly and is overall a pain in the *** to install. However, I have beaten the crap out of my OBX and it has held wonderfully and many many people have had the same results.

next time please search

edit: yah not being a dick i'm just short like that lol. How bout this search, then if its not in 1st two pages then ask =] then u at least made the effort.

yea that's good info

on the search thing, don't worry about though it's not a big deal, just remember in the future that you'll probably find your answer faster with searching than someone will reply to a thread

I'd get a good 1.1 way diff. FF doesn't need anything more.

OS Giken
Cusco
Mugen
Kaaz

All good diffs.

spoke with the representative of mfactory at sema about there new lsd's coming out that are not Chinese made, Australia made and look to be off really good quality. retail is right at the 600 range which isn't to bad. no need for shimming and different bolts like the obx, were gonna use one for a d-series and a h-series when they come out and see how much power they can take. they are helical style as well
