Honda Accord 07 2dr EX V6 shifter slides to D3 rather than stopping at D? Is there a

I just got a used 2007 Honda Accord 2dr EX V6..pretty much loaded - I just about love everything about the car except for the issue with when I put the car in gear. Like all cars, you have to hit the brake to release from park but after you can slide from reverse to drive without having to hold the button down *until* you want to pop it into 1,2, or 3. Unless I am staring at it and going one by one after taking the car out of park it just slides naturally almost like it's design is intended to always be in D3 then I have to push it back up up to D - confusing for me and especially if anyone needs to borrow my car and burn my engine in D3...

So the dirty question.. Is there a way to make it stop at D and not slide to D3? Is this a design flaw or could there be something wrong that I need to get fixed or a modification that I can make to stop it at D and not go any further unless the unlock button is pressed? Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!
