I need ya'll help with a convertor problem.

I have a 96 LX with an auto that has 179000 miles. The check engine light came on so I had it checked out. The codes that it threw was a 700 and a 740. This is a trans problem. I was surprise because the car shifted so good. I brought it to a trans shop and the guy told me that my torque convertor that was not locking up. He told me he could change it (torque convertor) for 750 parts and labor. A total rebuild would be anywhere from 950 to 2000 depending on what the tranny needed. Do ya'll think I can get by with a new torque convertor and not a whole new tranny or let it go and get a whole new tranny when it tears up? Thanks, any advice would be appreciated.

Good lord in the heaven, for 2000K and much under, you can have a 5 speed swap. Dont listend to that guy, and try to find a shop that bull ****s less.
