i have a 95 honda civic dx with an automatic trans. i had just coem back from running errands and realized i forgot something, so i started the car up again (it was at normal temp) and heard an almost grinding/banging sound from the trans...and then i lost reverse. it will not engage AT ALL. the trans fluid is full/clean (flushed and drained 8000 mi ago) and i have forward gears.

can anyone think of what might have caused it??? im trying to avoid having to replace the whole tranny. [&:]

 

from what ive heard from tranny shops is you DO NOT HAVE THE TRANNY FLUSHED...
at least what they told me was thiers some metal screens inside the tranny which when presure flushed loosens other debri which then inturn gets cloged in that screen which blocks the passeges which will inturn leave the tranny to its death......

but if it wont go into reverse then youll probably have to have it rebuilt...... or just try your best to NOT have to backup where ya park....

im pretty sure im gonna have to replace it. theres a shop out here that will put a reman with only 40k mi on it for 1500 i think thats my best bet right now.

nice civic you have there tho .. i like the neon. anything else custom on it?

and its not neons its cold cathodes and leds....... neons break to easily...
custom stereo... custom rear view mirror, taillights.... blue leds in my clusterblabla bla....

but if ya buy a remaned tranny at least get one with some type of warente....... JUST INCASE...... just as long as they are a respectable shop! ya dont wanna drop 1500 and have it go out to soon.......
just see if they have a milage and/or time warente.....

 

yeaaa i took a look at your civic .. its awesome! gives me some goals .. . i really like the led cluster and yer intake .. ahh im jealous..
well this shop im taking it to has a pretty good rep, and some people from work are gonna make sure i get treated nicely its a reman coming straight from honda, its got a warranty and i think under 40k mi.
i didnt really have a choice tho, i lost all the forward gears at a 4way stop yesterday..had to tow it.

and with moding your civic just take it one mod at a time....... and think about every mod and the complete picture! if ya do one quick mod you can throw it off..... depending what it is depends how bad it can look.LOL

just save up and start moding... thiers so much you can do with alittle knowledge and time... and a few common tools you can do great work yourself. but like always if you dont feel comfortable doing something... pay for it to be done.... tho luckely i got all the tools at my disposal and basic knowledge since my dad taught me since i was a kid.

 

i think with the amount of money they're charging you, you could prollyswap it to manual. ever consider it? when i swapped in my D15B, my mechanic was gonna charge me an extra $400 if i wanted to do the tranny swap. I'd have to source the tranny myself but he'd help me find the parts and install everything. idk food for thought.

 

i have thought about it .. and i probably will at some point, but right now i dont have enough time to find the parts and all that ...

yaaa i know exactly what youre saying. one step at a time. ill probably be asking a lot of questions in the process haha. i used to live in so cal, and my dad had every tool you could think of .. unfortanetly now all i have are some wrenches and floor jack. . so i got some money to spend.

did it take you awhile to get yours done???

 

well with mine.... used rims to start out with.... and tax checks help TONS. LMFAO

i think ive only had my civic for about a year now....
tho ive learned NOT to total up all the $$ i spend on my vehicles.....LOL that gets depressing VERY FAST!!!!!!!
