More Torque
This might sound like a dumb question but... I always hear questions concerning increasing Hp, but what are some ways to increase torque? Is it just inherent with increases in Hp? It's torque that really gets you down the track, right?

RE: More Torque
i was at new england dragway a couple weeks ago and i saw a twin turbo supra and an old monte carlo race.. the monte took off doin a wheelie and the supra nice and "slow" the monte was about 4 cars ahead of the supra till about the 8th mile mark where the supra flew past him. that seemed like a good example of the diffrence between hp and torque.

RE: More Torque
torque determines how fast you accelerate no?
|
RE: More Torque
To increase your torque... replace your stock intake and exhaust (seriously)... you torque will go up but your HP will go down. Best torque upgrade... supercharger.

RE: More Torque
generally, "torque' is considered low-end power, and "horsepower" is considered high-end power. you need one or the other to go fast. but hp is a factor of torque, so they pretty much go hand in hand. unless you shift where the power is with timing or exhaust tuning (or different FI options)
HP=torque X RPM/5252. so below 5252 RPMs, your torque numbers will be higher than your HP, and vice-versa. if you increase your torque across the powerband (easiest with FI or high compression) then both will go up. its some of the smaller mods that will shift power either up or down. cam and ignition timing are probaly the easiest ways to shift that power up or down. advance the ignition timing to about 18* BTDC to shift the power down a little, and about 15-16 for a little more on top. if you advance it, use premium fuel. |
RE: More Torque
my civic has around 130k miles on the tranny and motor, but someone told me if i replace the clutch i will get like an increase of 20 torque lol. Is that true?
|
RE: More Torque
no. if you get a lighter flywheel, it can help you accelerate faster, and possibly give an hp or two, but it can also hurt low-end torque. its worth it though. but a new clutch is in the cards for you soon with that many miles.
