Please Help...Transaxle problem

I have a '96 civic EX coupe. Earlier today on my way to work I noticed a metal jingling sound when I turned left. On the way home I noticed greatly increased resistance when coasting and it felt like something was rubbing wrong. When I got home I put it up on jackstands, popped the wheels off, started it up and put it in gear. The driver's side axle and hub spun with no problem but the passenger side didn't spin at all. There is no wiggle when I try to twist the axle or try to pull it out of the transmission. But when I grab the axle I can feel a vibration, like the splines are rounded off and not engaging, and the transmission is just spinning around it. What could be wrong? And what can I do to test it without tearing into the transmission. I would rather not get into it until I know what I'm going in to fix.

Your axle probably popped out.

Probably not seated all the way into the transmission. Pull out the axles, inspect the C-clip on the end of the axle and make sure it looks fine.

Try raising the wheels one at a time and see how things goes while its in gear. Rotate tires by hand and feel if there is resistance. Check brakes sticking or bad bearings,cv joints.
