Default Shift Knock?

When I shift into second I hear a slight knock is that bad? What could this be? I shift smoothly. Sometimes when I unscrew my gas cap it goes TSSSSSSSSSSSS could this be any reason?? I just went out and did that and it was a really powerful TSS.

the gas cap has nothing to do with your shifting problems. that tsss your talking about is just vapors from the gas tank i believe...

I was also thinking it was just the drive train picking up the slack even though i shift really smoothly. Yea i was just kinda throwing out an idea as to what could possibly make that happen that maybe someone could respond off of.

The fuel cap noise is normal. Pressure builds in the system when the car is running. The air escaping when you unscrew it just means your gas cap is sealing properly.

If it's an actual engine knock try adding some octane booster or buy a grade up in fuel (89 instead of 87, or whatever you have in your area). Or retard the timing a bit.

If it's more of a grind when you shift then it's your synchros . Start babyin that transmission.

You know, you might just be hearing the click the transmission makes when it goes into a gear. It's generally a more pronounced sound when you're shifting hard/fast.

Can't really say why you'd hear that on 2nd only... maybe by the time you've hit third you're going fast enough that road noise drowns it out?

If it shifts smooth don't worry about it. Unless it gets worse. Then it's time to panic!
