shifting into reverse problems

Default shifting into reverse problems

i just got a 2000 civic about 4 months ago or so, i have noticed that i have real trouble sometimes when i try to put it into reverse, its like it dosent want to get in reverse and if it dosent get into reverse and i let go of the clutch,it grinds,i have to try like 5 times sometimes to get in in reverse...anyone help? it this a problem with the tranny?

Do this: when it doesn't go into reverse easily, let go of the clutch with the stick in neutral, press it in, wait 5 seconds and voila. Should work.

or with clutch depressed shift into 1st then 2nd and go straight to reverse. works like a charm for me.

on a side note, do your cars make a funny noise while in reverse? like wumwumwuwumwum... gradually getting faster? Mine just doesnt sound as smooth as i expected i guess

Yea it does. I think all standard cars sound like this in reverse.

ya ,im sure all standerds sound like that when u reverse, but thanks for the tip, so this is not anything wrong with my tranny then??? or is that just the way it is?

It makes that dumb noise in reverse because your reverse gear in the transaxle are straight cut and not cut at an angle. If you ever hear of a dog box tranny, they are synchroless trannies all gears are srtaight cut and they whine like that in every gear.



Shifting into first will do the trick because you are lining up the synchros.
