SI and DX tranny question
 

as some of you know I own an 89 hatch si and finsing a tranny fer an si is like pulling my teeth there is just nort many out there to find. Was told a tranny from a dx would match up just fine. Are they correct and what is the diff and are DX trannies 4 speed or 5 been told both. Any replies would be nice[&:]

They will match up just fine, but the gear ratios are way different. Suffer a little acceleration and lower freeway rpm's for better gas mileage, but the Si tranny is probably at least half a second faster in the 1/4.

thanks fer the tip but I'm just looking fer a tranny that will fit while I rebuild my original tranny as a spare. and were ya saying that the si tranny is better on gas milage or the dx is????? not quite sure what you were trying to convey with the quater mile thang. I'm not into racing this thing lol it's my dayly commuter just I'm having either input shaft bearings gone or a bad clutch install done after I got it by a what I thought a reputable mechanic with my help. but thanks fer the tip cause dx trannies are readyly available than Si trannies.

all the gear ratios are the same between the two trannies, but the si has a higher final drive to give it more acceleration, but a lower top speed. the dx is a little better on gas because it keeps your rpm down on the highway, but around the city no real difference

I would've bought an Si if it weren't for the numerically higher final drive...
