Default Slight grinding on shifts!

I have noticed that sometimes when I shift, I can here a slight grinding noise. Could this be worn syncros, or maybe it just needs the oil changed? I dont know? I happens quite frequently.

If you rev it at high rpm(4000rpm) and shift it into gear then its usually the syncro.

how about when you are just moving off in first or second gear and not giving the car any gas. i think it's the throw out bearing but what do you guys think?

Throw out bearing normally squeaks or hums. It makes a constant noise that should vary depending on if you have the cluch in or out. My guess is either tranny oil(which should be really cheap to change just a few bucks if you do it yourself) or syncros. If it is the syncros just look for a good used tranny on e-bay or something. They run abou 200 bucks. I got mine for 150 plus 80 shipping and replaced it in 1 afternoon.

I don't think tranny/motor mounts will give you a grinding noise. When mine were worn I would get a click/clunk noise when accelerating or decelrating/stopping. The engine would wobble back and forth depending on strain.

Your suppose to use motor oil if your car is a standard. Use tranny oil if ur car is an auto.

grinding is most likely a syncro & or gear problem ----either way its internal ----the only thing u might want to try --is change the gear oil & try synthetic gear oil --maybe u will get lucky

Well, I changed the oil last weekend. I put Amsoil 10W40 in it. There was very little traces of metal shavings in the old oil. I noticed that the old oil in it smelled alot like gearoil. Im not sure if the pervious owner ever changed it or what. Anyway, it seemed to shift a little better for the following next three days after I changed it. Now it shifts great! Alot smoother, and it dosn't grind at all anymore! I guess I did get lucky? Thanks for the post guys!
