Default Replacement transmision

As some of you may know I need a new Manual transmision as myne is on the way out with a bad berring/s and am in need of a replacement.

I feel that my best option is to buy a used transmision that is know to function and to put it into my car, while attempting to rebuild the one that I pull out if I need to and decide to keep the car.
Is this a wise course of action in experience?

My other question being will a transmision from a 1.5L 94 Dx work in my ex?
It looks like the big auto parts place around here, John's Auto, has 2, one with 96K labled as "DX,1.5L,FLR,5SP" and the other with 156K labled "1.5L,FLR,5SP" Both are priced at $250.

My other option was to have my transmission rebuilt for me and probably would cost me around $650 bucks and 1 or more weeks in downtime as I would need to pull the transmision before the overhaul weekend coming up in two weeks.

Note I am trying to minimize downtime and want to do both the transmision replacement timing belt and water pump in a 3 day weekend with the help of friends and beer! Rebuilding myne does not seem to be possible in this three day weekend as I do not have the nessary knowledege of transmisions to be able to do this in such a short period of time.

If anyone wants to lend a hand feel free to pm me, I pay my help with good beer and more beer + 1 pat on the back

How big of a difference is it in the gearing ratio's between the dx tranny and a ex? I saw you compare the z6 and y8 but not between trim. The parts place I'm trying to get the part from has a DX transmision and not an ex... Should I be scared of miles on these transmisions or should I try to keep it under 100K?

A 92-95 civic DX/LX manual tranny (D15B7) and 96-00 civic CX/LX/DX manual tranny (D16Y7) are worse for low end power in comparison.

Here's the specs:

92-95 EX 96-98 EX 92-95 DX/LX 96-00 DX/LX/CX
Z6 M/T gear ratios: Y8 M/T gear ratios: B7 M/T gear ratios: B7 M/T gear ratios:
1ST: 3.250 1ST: 3.250 1ST: 3.250 1ST: 3.250
2ND: 1.900 2ND: 1.909 2ND: 1.761 2ND: 1.782
3RD: 1.250 3RD: 1.250 3RD: 1.172 3RD: 1.172
4TH: 0.909 4TH: 0.909 4TH: 0.909 4TH: 0.909
5TH: 0.702 5TH: 0.702 5TH: 0.702 5TH: 0.702
Reverse: 3.153 Reverse: 3.153 Reverse: 3.153 Reverse: 3.153
Final Drive: 4.250 Final Drive: 4.250 Final Drive: 3dr: 3.888 4dr:4.058 3dr:3.722 2dr:4.058

If you can try to get a tranny below 100k. But that's still doesn't mean it's a good tranny. My original tranny had over 230k and was still great except the differential got sloppy.
