Transmission fluid

I have a 98 Honda civic, with a d16y8 engine. I am wondering how do i check my transmission fluid.

manuals have gear oil, not tranny fluid.

actually, its not gear oil either. its engine oil. 10w-30. there is a 17mm plug on the side of the transmission on the passenger side. undo that and see if the level is close to the hole. actually, just change it. its 2 qts of 10w-30. you just jack up the car a little, slide a pan under the hole to catch the oil, then use a ratchet with no socket to open the drain plug that is located just below the fill hole. let i tall drain out, then close that up, and fill the thing back up with fresh oil. 2 qts fills it perfectly, but its tough to get the oil in. youll need a long funnel with a flexible end. its easy though, it takes me more time to let the oil drain than everything else does.

you use 10w30 in your tranny sacicons? i didnt think you could do that i run royal purple.

well, its supposed to be 10-30. i use mobil1 synthetic. im not sure about the long term effects, but it seems like it would be better. and i havent had any problems yet.

i personally run cheap advance auto 10-30 and never had a problem. i find it easier to remove the reverse light switch and use a long funnel and fill through there. ive seen some people who remove the starter, then remove the 19mm bolt right below the starter and fill there.

Just use a long funnel and put a piece of heater hose on the end, then stick it in from the top and feed the hose into the filler hole...
