trany or clutch question

Ok folks getting conflicting responses from honda gurus (that's you folks) to and clutch /transmission people. Ok these are the symptoms .
I have an 89 honda civic 1.6l .

symptoms are a rattle when I don't have the clutch pedal down and when I drive, and obviously quietens down when I push the pedal to release the clutch. OK this is where i get conflicting responses from it's yer throw out bearing to it's your tranny. Gears are strong though, which makes me think it's the clutch.
the clutch repair shops saying it's the tranny
HELP which is it. Cause I'm ready to replace the clutch if that is just it. To UGH have to look fer a new tranny.
Any help with what to look for, when I rip the clutch off the car.
HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!.

I've got the same thing... I think its a Throw Out Bearing.

Noise ONLY when the clutch is fully depressed. Loud when driving from 1st. Also, it doesn't always make the noise, mostly when WOT in 1st.

RE: trany or clutch question

Sounds like it could be your throwout bearing. When the noise starts, push the clutch in just enough to make the T/O bearing touch the pressure plate but not enough to dis-engage the clutch. If the noise for the most part goes away, it's the T/O bearing.

When you tear it apart to do the clutch, make sure you replace the pilot bearing as well.
