i'll put my money on it (which is none :) ) that it's your syncrhos.

At the risk of sounding like a complete ass, are you talking about an auto or stick? And if a stick, there's no tranny fluid right? I'm not that into trannys so please excuse my idiocy if I'm wrong.

Not that it really much matters but:

The syncrhos is what allows you to put the car in gear without grinding. Once the car is in a gear the job of the syncrhos is done. It is now the design of the gears that keeps it in gear. If you are having trouble putting the car in a gear then the syncrhos are bad. If the car pops out of gear, you have a worn set of gears. Either way you are better off buying a used tranny. The last time I rebuilt a tranny the syncrhos cost about $125 for the entire set and it was about $100 for a set of gears. However if you have a five speed then you have 5 sets of gears. Of course then you have the labor of removing and installing which must be done on a press.

Lucky for you, a used manual tranny isn't to bad on the pocket. If you do decide to change it out be sure to replace the clutch, pressure plate, pilot and T/O bearing and turn the flywheel.

Most manual transmissions (V8's) take gear oil, but I'm pretty sure Honda uses 10W30 in the gear box. At least in the newer ones.
